Manage users and roles

F5 AI Security administrators need to manage users and roles. In this document, you'll learn how to set up users and roles.

Before you begin

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • An AI Security workspace: If your deployment of AI Security is on-premises, use your own URL. If you're working with the F5 AI Security SaaS deployment, the URL could be us1.calypsoai.app or eu1.calypsoai.app. Use this base URL in your environment variables.
  • An administrative account: Users with Org Admin privileges have access to the features described in this page.

Invite a new user

  1. Log in to the AI Security UI.
  2. Select Configure > Settings > Users.
  3. Select the Invite button.
  4. Enter the name, email address, and assign roles. You can select:
    • Org Admin
    • Custom roles that you've previously configured
    • If you do not select a role, the new user will be given a default User role
  5. Select one of these options:
    • Cancel
    • Copy invite link: which you can send to the user
    • Invite: sends the invite to the user's email address

By default, regular users have access to chat in the AI Security UI.

Note: If you created a regular user before our May 20, 2026 release, that user has access to the API and can create API keys. If you want future users to have this access, you can create a new role, assign API access permissions to that role, and make that role "Default".

Create a role

You can now create custom roles. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the AI Security UI.
  2. Select Configure > Settings > Roles.
  3. Select the Create role button.
  4. Enter a name for the role
  5. Select the permissions of your choice. In case you don't yet have access to the AI Security UI, you can review a list of permissions in this reference doc.

Set a default role

The standard default role has limited access to AI Security. Such users can access chat and nothing else.

You can now set up the default role of your choice. Hover over the role of your choice. In the pop-up menu that appears, select Set as default.

Note: If you create a new default role, that applies only to new users.

Assign a role

If you want to change or assign a role to a user, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the AI Security UI.
  2. Select Configure > Settings > Users.
  3. Select the user. Highlight the three-dot (ellipsis) menu, and select Edit user.
  4. In the window that appears, select the Role drop-down box. Select desired system and custom roles.
  5. Select Save.
